Only use water baths when the child is not sweating. Sweating is the body’s way of reducing the temperature and it is best not to interfere.

Neutral Bath

Immerse entire body of child in tub of water 93 to 96 degrees F. Monitor temperature closely so that the temperature is not reduced to below 100 degrees F. For instance, if you want to reduce the temperature to 102 degrees F, stop when your child’s temperature reaches 103.5 degrees F. The temperature will continue to reduce outside the bath.

Tepid Sponge Bath

Water between 82 to 92 degrees F is applied to the trunk and arms with a sponge. This is a gentle and effective treatment for children.
